El Alamein is one of the cities of Matrouh Governorate, located east of Marsa Matrouh and west of Alexandria, with a population of approximately 10,922 people. The city is divided into three main areas: El Alamein, Sidi Abdel Rahman Village, and Tal Al-Ais Village. The Battle of El Alamein took place on its soil, which is one of the most famous battles of World War II between the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, in which the forces of the German African Legion were defeated. The village of Sidi Abdel Rahman is located 130 km west of Alexandria, and only 30 km from El Alamein, on the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. El Alamein International Airport

El Alamein International Airport is located on an area of 64 km2 and is being implemented in three phases at a cost estimated at about 800 million pounds under the construction and operation system. Its ownership will be transferred to the state after 50 years, renewable for 49 years. The first phase of the airport opened in March 2005 to accommodate 600 passengers per hour, reaching 2,000 passengers per hour in its final phase. The airport's runway is 3.5 km long and 45 meters wide, making it capable of receiving all types of heavy aircraft. The airport includes an international aviation school, a free trade zone, in addition to an environmentally friendly industrial zone and agricultural areas for organic products.

Land roads

The city is connected to the rest of Egypt's governorates by a network of land transportation, represented by the international coastal road that extends from the Rafah port in the east to the Salloum port in the west along the Mediterranean coast, the Alexandria/Matrouh Desert Road, the El Alamein/Al Qattara Road, and the Wadi El Natroun/Alamein Road, which is the shortest road. From Cairo to El Alamein, with a length of 135 km, it was closed in July 2015 with the aim of completing maintenance and construction work on the road to raise its efficiency and expand it. A railway line from Alexandria to Marsa Matrouh also connects the city, passing through the El Alamein and Sidi Abdel Rahman stations.
